From a child to a mother

There are good times and bad times. These are basiclaly classified based on the events perse in one's own life and in lifves of those closer to one self. But if only some one sits back and analyse with out any prejudice, wisdom will be there to the effect that all times are good and it is the way we associste the events with it that changes the complexion.

The post and its contents are a reflection on the news of twin addition to my family circle. In the process i have become a grand father twice in a span of one minute, yes the arrival of twin sons to my co brother's daughter , one at 9.29 am and the other at 9.30 am, gave me those crowns. One , i am told looks like the mother, soft and chubby, while the other possibly reflects the father, cute, lean and mischivous.

It appears as if i have seen the mother of the twins herself as a kid only few days back.Yes at times decades appear like days and days appear like decades. All in life..and the life comes in circles. No doubt on that!!

Hardly 18 months back, i was extending a moral support along wih my wife to this mother of twins, blessing her for her desires to become fruitful. And in a span of 18 months she has become a mother , and the first one at that TO BE BLESSED WITH TWINS.

Having seen her in close quarters as a lovable daughter, an obedient child and an understanding/calm girl (in her teens) it is difficult to believe that she has now become a mother.A girl develops fast, they say compared to a boy, and it is something to be seen to be believed. And all said and done. i am sue that those twin kids are really blessed to have a mother like her, calm, cool and amiable...

MAY THE HEAVENS BLESSINGS BE SHOWERED ON THIS BEAUTIFUL FAMILY OF HERS EVERY SECOND..

Thirukkural

Those who have Tamil as mother tongue would be familiar with Thiruvalluvar and his famous work Thirukkural, consisting of three divisions and 1330 couplets. The three divisions are named based on the conceptual coverage of the same.
They deal respectively with "Aram","Porul" and "Inbham" in that order.

Symbolically it may be stated that they deal with how to lead life in a principled manner(aram), what is earned out of the same (porul) and how it can pave the way for happiness(Inbham).

There are many commentaries about Thirukkural, starting from Parimelazhagar, down to Kalaignar Karunannidhi, each vying each other for the excellence, clarity of thoughts and the view points as seen by the presenter. The fact that many commentaries exist goes to prove the depth of contents of each of those 1330 couplets , hardly comprising of seven words each. The fact that none of these commentaries can claim themselves to be a complete mirror of the contents add to the beauty of Thirukkural.Every reader depending upon the issue in which he is involved in can seek a solution from Thirukkural and the fact that it gives solutions not only to problems of individual but also to the problems of administration and administrators bear testimony to its grandeur.

There are DOZENS OF BOOKS BY WESTERN AUTHORS hitting the best sale stand , year after year but none of them can claim to be as comprehensive or as holistic as Thirukkural turns out to be.

For those who wonder as to why this sudden love on this blog on behalf of Thiruvalluvar, i owe an explanation.

It is exactly an year back , on 17th January, there are problems at the personal level and at the official level. Not that they are insurmountable. They are not properly understood and the fear of unknown has made it appear as if the problem is of a great magnitude and is not capable of being solved.THEN CAME THIRUKKURAL to offer solution.

"Ithanai ivan mudikkum endru arainthu
adhnai avan kan vidal"

One should understand the nature of job, the person who is capable of executing it and then entrust the job to that person to ensure success in that job.

"Gnalam karuthinum kaikoodum
kalam karuthi idaththal seyin"

Even if one has to conquer the world the same is possible of attainment if there is a proper time for execution and there is a proper place for execution.

now if you combine and read , it will mean the combination of right person, the right time and the right place would enable you to come victorious out of the greatest challenge.

THAT HAS WHAT HAS BEEN DONE BOTH BY MY SON & DAUGHTER, THEY ALLOWED TIME TO TAKE ITS COURSE, AWAITED THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY, REMAINED PATIENT, PUT IN THEIR EFFORTS, DID NOT TURN BACK TO BROOD OVER, REMAINED FOCUSSED FORWARD AND SAW TO IT THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY (READ AS EXACTLY AN YEAR LATER ON 17/1/2011)THEY WERE WHERE THEY WANTED TO BE ACADEMICALLY AND OFFICIALLY.

And i am with them at this hour trying to emulate them(Thagappan sami) so that i could also come out of the present wriggles facing me . And yes , one realting to a bank affair has already resolved itself and i expect the same for the rest.

AND THOSE WHO CARE TO READ, READ THIRUKKURAL, THE MASTER OF ALL BOOKS(No offence intended to any author or nay book please!!)

TIME AND TIDE WAITS FOR NO ONE

Today is 17th Janauary 2011.Entire Tamil NADU and its population is enjoying a loong week end .Entire marina beach is flooded with people of diffrent communities, caste and creed all of which pale into insignificance in the vastness of the blue ocean and its waves. And that is where the smallness of human beings vis-a-vis the vastnes of universe comes into sheer contrast.

Counting from Friday last, thanks to the mercy of tamil nadu CM, the students and office goers alike are enjoying almost a week's holidays, considering taht many have the tendency to combine their leave with such long holidays. It is therefore not a surprise at all to see that the trains and buses are overcrowded and that the private operators are having a field day to charge whatever comes to their mind irrespective of the distance and the comfort they offer to their commuters.I pity the genuine travllers who are compelled to make a journey for an emergency in the midst of such maddening holiday crowds. But this phenomenon has come to stay and except for some screaming headlines about the huge hike in fairs and the pictures of crowds at the bus stand/railway stations in print media and TV nothing much happens.Governemnt is a silent spectator.

What i am worried more about is what happens after the holidays.Knowing the manner in which consumers are made to go from pilaar to post even during normal working days, what awaits them is a nightmare after the loong holidays, whether it is a government office or a BSNL office or a bank or and elecrici bills payment counters.Un mindfull of the agony of the waiting public, each of the staff will be narrating to each other about the thrilling !! experiences of their holiday visit, the shopping done, the movies seen, the TV progrmames witnessed and missed and so on and so forth.Essentilaly the waiting period for a common man will be the holidays plus 2 days prefixed and suffixed to enable the employees to come to their terms with the work Bu the time next week end will be staring at him/her.

I wonder the need for such long holidays. In FOREIGN COUNTRIES WHEN THEY WORK THEY WORK LIKE BULLS AND WHEN THEY REALX, they enjoy hoildays to its fullest extent. But we who ape the foreign countries for any thing and every thing do not have the basic courtesy to attend to a consumer with a smile after a long week end. Instead we pick up a quarrel on issues of no relevance and make the whole day/week to become mutually unrewarding for both.

This country has got brilliant brains, this country has got one of the youngest population, this country has got the potential , but there are no leaders to show the way, there are no politicians worth their name and fame and the media who can really do wonders by their presence are engaged in making the public to be total fools in front of an idiot box(supplying them free of cost and recovering the cost in less than 6 months by huge cable bills which itself is not known to the gullible public).

A change therefore is inevitable. And that lies in the hands of the educated youth.
And the youth are having not only a passion , they also have an appreciation of the difficulties that this country face with the existing mAsters and they have the trump card, the votes with them to change the destiny of this country. LeT THEM THINK , VOTE AND BRING ABOUT A CHANGE FOR BETTER IN ALL WALKS OF LIFE.

LET US UNITE TO SEE AN WONDERFUL INDIA, THANKS TO THE BUBBLING YOUTH OF THIS COUNTRY..

JAYAKANTHAN VS SUJATHA

I have made it a continuing and a compulsive habit to read atleast for an hour before retiring to bed.I have always enjoyed reading books , but of late i ahve realised i am not giving the desired attention to the books and i am simply hurrying thru the reading instead of enjoying the reading.

And when i have consciously put brakes on the reading speed i ahve come to appreciate very many new dimensions which possibly i was not able to appreciate when i have given the first time reading.

Fortunately for me i have got two books of two great and favourite authors of mine ..One by Jayakanthan(HIS KURU NAVALGAL) and the other by Sujatha (His collection of short stories. The fact that they belong to two different styles each of which is great in its own way added to the reading comfort and taste.

As some one remarked if good books were by your side, your time passes off in a grand manner and the books stand as friends to offer you solutions to your problems too.(Please do not misunderstand that one should read books for the purpose of finding solutions to their problems, it may be an incidental benefit, the main benefit is that you are able to talk to those characters and imbibe their vibrations and to that extent your focus gets sharpened and your way of reacting becomes balanced).

Jayakanthan since my child hood had been my favorite and when i reached my teenage, Sujatha's writings attracted me with equal force. If JAYAKANTHAN'S novels portray the
hidden side of human mind and life and also attempts to go for its solutions , Sujatha's stories invariably are fast paced, touch any thing and every thing that you can imagine to happen in a day to day life and ends with some unexpected twist. While JAYAKANTHAN'S narrations are meant to make you sit and do a self analysis, Sujatha's stories are more factual, do not make you feel guilty , but make you understand that there are two sides to the same coin.Jayakanthan's narration invariably have the slight tone of communism as its thread while Sujatha's stories keep the coomon mand and his weaknesses / strengths as its core .While JAYA KANTHAN;S writings make you feel dazed and shaken up for a while, Sujatha's stories are a way of satirical commentary and leaves its imprints with out feeling disturbed.

Now come to some of their classics..Jaya AKANTHAN'S Yarukkaga Azhudhan, Sila nerangalil sila manithrgal, Kokila enna seithu vittal, Agni pravesam, Adum narkaligal adugindrana, Kagitham ottappatta jannalgal are some of the stories which keep giving you diffrent meanings at each poit of time you read them. In other words your appreciation enlarges with each passing year.

For Sujatha, KARAI ELLAM SENBAGAPPOO, Oru thuli raththam,VASANT Ganesh DETECTIVE SERIALS, umpteen number of short stories including some unforgettable ones like
Sujatha ezhudum kathai, thedal, koonthal, oru latcham puththagangal, iru kadithangal, juno, Kuthirai etc portray the variety and ease with which he has touched subjects and made an impact on the readers.

With hardly a couple of days remaining for Pongal festival to bring cheers , enthusiasm and vasantham in every one's life, my best wishes for an wonderf ul and happy pongal

And make it a point to make books as your best friends for they wstay with you thru thick and thin.

HAPPY READING TIMES AHEAD TO EVERY ONE OF YOU.

A LEGEND OF HIS TIMES

We keep coming across many personalities who have done great things in their life time.At times we stand, gaze at them in astonishment and move on. At times we take them as role models to emulate. At times we were so engulfed by their presence and performance that we were in search of words to praise them.

All these thoughts to gether flashed thru my mind when i went to the musical nite by SP Balasubramanian and P.SUSEELA on Sunday.I was waiting to pen this blog since then but somehow could get time only today.

And the legend i am referring to is my favourite singer SPB. Right from the time he came on to the celluloid world with his famous song "AAYIRAM NILAVE VAA"there is no turning back. Every song, in every language that he sang, was a testimony to the passion and love that he possessed for this great art of music,All these came to light on that beautiful Sunday. With the cool breeze of MARGAZHI already creating a beautiful back drop for the musical extravaganza,he came on to the stage at quarter to seven and occupied the stage for little more than 3hours.During this period of three hours he paired with singers (of both genders of different age groups) with so much ease, control and comfort and was proving at every stage of his rendition that he is the king of his art.

The lovely voice with out any smear what soever, the diction delivery, raga aalabanai (Cine Songs chosen were with karnatic background which itself gave a unique feeling to the whole programme and gave an opportunity to listen to songs of yester years and also to songs of of recent origin ), the fusion that he was able to bring about, the compatibility with fellow singers, the respect that he showed to all singers irrespective of their age all went to prove that the legend is ruling and will continue to rule for years to come.

Five songs took the night by storm and made value for money.
1..MADHAMO AVANI, MANGAYO MARGAZHI
despite that the other legend P.Suseela was not able to match, him he compensated for her too by his brilliant rendering.
2..Unakkenna mele nindrai Oh NANDALALA-Sri MS Viswanathan was present as a chief guest and SPB presented this song as a tribute to MSV and what a tribute it is !!
3..Innum ennai enna seyya pogirai ...A song which i have developed a special taste and when SPB sang that song the whole auditorium was instantly in love with that song.
4...Aval oru navarasa nadagam...Another song of another legend MGR.the beauty is that the song was sung with teh same beauty, class and birgas as it was rendered for the original play back and th applause was thunderous.
5..MALARE MOUNAMA...Anantu was explaining the beauty of each song and the features of the raga based on which each song was sung. For this song he joined SPB to render the humming in the back ground and co singer for this song for the night was Deepshika (Who was affectionately called as Vamani by SPB to indicate her short height and her ability to take viswaroopam when it came to performance on the stage)and the three of them enthralled the audience with one of the finest blend of music, rhythm and orchestra.

Because of the anxiety to reach home in time with my wife and sister i left with an hour to go for the curtains to come down and i was told that his favourie songs from sankarabaranam occupied the centre stage later.

No regrets on that. What i have heard for about 2 hours gave such a joy and peace of mind, which is difficult to explain.Good music they say act as a great medicine when you are in distress and it adds to your happiness when you are already in a state of ecstasy

SPB proved that on that night, long live the legend!!!.

FIFTY FIRST POST-PARALLEL TO TENDULKAR:):)

Numbers do not normally mean anything to me except to the extent of some strange coincidence relating to recurrence of certain events on certain dates. However when i see the tribute pouring in on Tendulkar, THE little master(Is he still little master!) on his fify first century in the recent test series against South Africa, i thought i could also share with him on the popularity and publicity(ardent fans of Tendulkar are requested not to take this blog post too seriously)wehn i go in to pen for my 51ST BLOG POST.

It appears as if i have started blogging only yesterday after couple of abortive attempts and after quite a few instances of absent mindedness regarding pass words, resulting in remaining as a non starter for quite a few months. Then , due to the untiring cajoling by my son(if readers of this blog have got any compliments to make it is purely due to my son and brick bats if any belong solely to me) already a half century is completed and i owe this post to my dear son.

The fact that he is miles away at Hongkong, trying to settle down to new environment, new friends, new curriculam, new food habits etc has not withered him a bit as could be witnessed from his blog posts at Transient lines@blogpost.com,which has prompted me to go in for this post , though it is comparatively a hectic day.

New year has dawned well and already a week old.Quite a few things which i did not anticipate in the beginning of the new year 2010 , has happened in the first seven days of the new year 2011, which among other things include my son's moving to the campus at Honkong baptist univeristy exactly on the new year day , my daughter landing at USA (which gave me a sense of joy and pride as if i have landed there my self)on the 3rd day of the new year and one of my auditor friends coming in person and congratulating me for being fortunate to have a son and daughter like the ones i had.He was particularly making a reference to the post of my son in his blog on my birth day and i was moved beyond words.

Exactly an year back, both my eyes (MY son and duaghter) were waging a battle of their own on issues relating to the personal/academic/professional sides and the fact that they had stood the test of time with grit and determination and came out successfull at the end of it all bore testomony to their inner strength and potential. The fact that they listened to what others said and waited with patience for the light at the end of the tunnel should be an eye opener to youngsters who are struggling with out guidance .Belief in one's own credentials, hope, trust and a deep bond of understanding can do wonders.

The mind is now relaxed,It is neither jubiliant nor depressed and come to think of it when my son and daughter took leave of us, it looked as if they were waiting for the same to happen and did not show any apprehensions/anxities or jubiliations about it.

AND I THINK THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE NEW YEAR. LIFE'S EVENTS TO SOME EXTENT ONY ARE UNDER OUR CONTROL AND MOST OF THE TIMES OUR CHOICES ARE LIMITED.WITHIN THESE LIMITATIONS TO CHOOSE WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO AND TO PURSUE THEM WITH SINGLE MINDED DEVOTION,OBLIVIOUS OF THE OUTCOME AND TO ACCEPT THE OUTCOME WITH GRACE ARE THE GREATEST TRAITS ONE CAN IMBIBE AND PRACTICE TO LEAD A HEALTHY LIFE.I AM GLAD THAT THE SUPREME POWWER HAS MOULDED US IN THIS DIRECTION.
