WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR 2012

I thought that my welcome post to the new year will be my 100 th post. But like Tendulkar, whose disappointment has become the disapppointment of India in particular and the world at large,my posts have numbered just 98, missingthe land mark just by a whisker. One major diffrence however between me and Tendulkar is that there are not many who are disappointed and that includes me too!!

Coming back to the welcome message for the new year 2012, my memories go back to another of those nail biting moments of the yester year Viz 2010 decemeber, while we were having a count down for the arrival of the year 2011.

My son had just stepped into Hongkong and was enjoying the warmth and friendship of a dear host there, counting at the same time the days and hours for his stepping into another innings of his chosen career at HK Baptist university. My daughter was going thru one more dilemma(perhaps the last in the disturbing year 2010)as to whetherto proceed on a trip to US on an official visit or to call it quits, since her day of betrothal was encroaching on the project work that had been entrusted to her.(or vice versa)

As far as my self was concerned, i was counting days to my last full fledged balance sheet to be completed in time (as 2011 was my year of retirement in the capacity of an employee)and with out any major issues as things were not looking rosy then. Both on personal front and on official front there were anxieties, loose ends, unanswered questions and so on and so forth. There were also property matters hanging in balance to be attended to.

Then collectively we decided. We will march ahead. We will attend first to the duties and responsibilities and then look for rewards to flow through.Even if there were no rewards the sense of discharging duties diligently , not withstanding personal limitations and pressures all around, mattered a lot to
all of us,Then we saw the coins fitting in at proper places as if guided by a super power.

THE admission into university on the appointed date of my son, followed by an accomplishement by my daughter of having completed her project in overseas amidst all odds as per the schedule (I was recollecting a similar fete achieved by my son earlier in EFL when he completed and submitted his thesis racing against time )and my completion of my tenth annual report of the bank in a row just in time to be ready for the marriage of my daughter all followed
in quick succssion.I bowed and bowed to the grace of almighty and thanked for having given us all the courage and determination to travel in the chosen paths with grit and confidence.

While the first half was a race against time, a period full of relationships and a need to balance as if walking on a razor blade, the second half after the grand event of my daughter's marriage was a welcome relief. My daughter soon settled into her matrimonial life , as if she was taylor made for that role since birth (this is another surprising element about all women!!). My son who flew in and gave a reliefr as if a refreshing breeze to be by my side and to support me during the days of marriage, went back, leaving behind his warmth and affection to enable me to pull along. And the office had suddenly become calm and quiet and each day took me a step closer to my retirement. And once again it was a "thani kudiththnam" of sorts for my wife and me and we were actually blessed to have it after a hectic period of events lasting for allmost an year.

And then the final day at office. the fare well and retirement .The words spoken and not spoken, the love and affection shown and the gifts that were poured in all pointed out to the accomplishment to satisfaction. Then the last two months after the retirement.I had started using this time to do what all i
was longing to do.Reading of my favourite authors, responding to every one of the emails that i rceived(notwithstanding the name that i got in the process as Vetti payal),listening to some great music, spending some quality time with my near and dear and visit to the temples which i always had been planning but
always had been postponing for want of time...

Thus the year 2011 which started with anxieties on allmost all fronts had turned out personally for me to be an year of grace, contentment and happiness. And as the dawn visits with the chanting of thiruppavai and thiruvembavai, ushering in the new year 2012 , i feel much more at ease, comfort and peace of mind. And i wish every one the same or better levelo of peace, grace, comfort, happiness and health as the new year 2012 ushersin.

KUNG HAI FAT CHOI

I WISH ALL THE READERS (I CAN ALSO FANTASIZE OF MILLIONS OF READERS TO MY BLOG:):)A LIVELY CHINESE NEW YEAR. KUNG HAI FAT CHOI...WHICH LITERALLY MEANS HAPPY NEW YEAR.

IT WAS EXCATLY 13 YEARS BACK IN 1998 I WITNESSED THE GRANDEUR AND GLORY OF THE CHINESE NEW YEAR FROM THE OPEN TERRACE OF THE FLAT AT GOLDKING MANSION,TAI HANG DRIVE WHERE I WAS DESTINED/BLESSED (WHICH EVER WAY U TAKE IT) TO STAY FOR ALMOST 5 YEARS.

And the colourful parade of crakers and teh rilliance of lights emitted by them still remain green in my memory. It was as if thosands of deepavalis being celebrated all at the same point of time. Imagine the population of Chennai coming around with kith and kin to marina and start firing craKERS ALL AT THE SAME TIME AT THE DOTTED HOUR.

I still remember the punctuality with which the grand event will start and finish. It used to be around 8 pm in my days . And note it, it will start exactly at 8 pm and it will conclude exactly in 30 minutes, i,e by 8.30 pm.the precision with which the timing is adhered to, the manner in which the clouds are monitored, the ease with which the traffic is controlled are all factors to be seen to be believed.

My initial reaction when i witnessed it in first year was that the credits belong to British who held seige over hongkong for decades and who left the island under a bipartite settlement only in July 1997.So i was in fact not very keen next year(1999) to attend to the grand show, for fear that the same may not be as orderly or as good as the one witnessed in 1998.I was proved wrong. The second one was more majestic than the first one.In fact the jubiliation of having won back Hongkong from hands of the British, possibly added more passion to the whole show.

I would like to know how the event is celebrated as of now and i have goaded my son (who has landed in HK DEC2010)not to miss this event. I have consciously used the word goading as my son is shy of crowds and i bet the crowds are going to be there in thousands, still the colourful sight of the entire population joining together to celebrate an event , ushering of new year, is great feat to watch and cherish.

The year is said to be the year of rabbit. Chinese years are always linked to animals and that is possibly because of their close love and appetite(conscious use)for them .nO OFFENCE MEANT ANY WAY. In a country whose population is incresing leaps and bounds, availability /sufficiency of food is a major concern and hence the people have been taught to make use of what is availble around them to take care of their hunger.

RABBITS ARE SAID TO BE FRIENDLY, TACTFUL AND CHARMING.The year is also predicted to be one of charm, friendliness and warmth.I recall my last Rabbit year in HK island, when i was present in a chinese restaurant, celebrating the new year with my chinese staff with a tamil song!!yes as atrue lover of tamil, i sang the song "Sen thamizh then mozhiyal, nilavena sirikkum malrkodiayal" with karoke , accompanied by a lovable dance by a few chinese girls and the night became an unforget ful one.I wish all my readers ,my chinese staff,my friends and above all my dearest son KUNG HAI FAT CHOI..:):)

FIFTY FIRST POST-PARALLEL TO TENDULKAR:):)

Numbers do not normally mean anything to me except to the extent of some strange coincidence relating to recurrence of certain events on certain dates. However when i see the tribute pouring in on Tendulkar, THE little master(Is he still little master!) on his fify first century in the recent test series against South Africa, i thought i could also share with him on the popularity and publicity(ardent fans of Tendulkar are requested not to take this blog post too seriously)wehn i go in to pen for my 51ST BLOG POST.

It appears as if i have started blogging only yesterday after couple of abortive attempts and after quite a few instances of absent mindedness regarding pass words, resulting in remaining as a non starter for quite a few months. Then , due to the untiring cajoling by my son(if readers of this blog have got any compliments to make it is purely due to my son and brick bats if any belong solely to me) already a half century is completed and i owe this post to my dear son.

The fact that he is miles away at Hongkong, trying to settle down to new environment, new friends, new curriculam, new food habits etc has not withered him a bit as could be witnessed from his blog posts at Transient lines@blogpost.com,which has prompted me to go in for this post , though it is comparatively a hectic day.

New year has dawned well and already a week old.Quite a few things which i did not anticipate in the beginning of the new year 2010 , has happened in the first seven days of the new year 2011, which among other things include my son's moving to the campus at Honkong baptist univeristy exactly on the new year day , my daughter landing at USA (which gave me a sense of joy and pride as if i have landed there my self)on the 3rd day of the new year and one of my auditor friends coming in person and congratulating me for being fortunate to have a son and daughter like the ones i had.He was particularly making a reference to the post of my son in his blog on my birth day and i was moved beyond words.

Exactly an year back, both my eyes (MY son and duaghter) were waging a battle of their own on issues relating to the personal/academic/professional sides and the fact that they had stood the test of time with grit and determination and came out successfull at the end of it all bore testomony to their inner strength and potential. The fact that they listened to what others said and waited with patience for the light at the end of the tunnel should be an eye opener to youngsters who are struggling with out guidance .Belief in one's own credentials, hope, trust and a deep bond of understanding can do wonders.

The mind is now relaxed,It is neither jubiliant nor depressed and come to think of it when my son and daughter took leave of us, it looked as if they were waiting for the same to happen and did not show any apprehensions/anxities or jubiliations about it.

AND I THINK THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE NEW YEAR. LIFE'S EVENTS TO SOME EXTENT ONY ARE UNDER OUR CONTROL AND MOST OF THE TIMES OUR CHOICES ARE LIMITED.WITHIN THESE LIMITATIONS TO CHOOSE WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO AND TO PURSUE THEM WITH SINGLE MINDED DEVOTION,OBLIVIOUS OF THE OUTCOME AND TO ACCEPT THE OUTCOME WITH GRACE ARE THE GREATEST TRAITS ONE CAN IMBIBE AND PRACTICE TO LEAD A HEALTHY LIFE.I AM GLAD THAT THE SUPREME POWWER HAS MOULDED US IN THIS DIRECTION.

ADVENT OF THE NEW YEAR

Every New Year , brings its own charms. It is the individuals who make a difference to it , based on their mood sets.

It has become customary for almost, with out exception to sit in front of TVs waiting to see that the clock strikes zero hours so that they can wish the near and dear a very happy new year.

Crackers are burst, telephones suddenly comes to life with non stop ringing at mid night, Drinks (hard and mild) flow like water , Prayers are offered at Churches and at times in temples too.

In all the glee and momentum that follows, the flaws committed in the yester year are given a go by, the challenges awaiting in the new year are consciously forgotten and the moment per se is enjoyed and enlivened.

If it can give a boost to energy levels by celebrating the new year, why not we celebrate each dawn like the same way. After all it is a new ray of hope and a new dawn of life as one never knows as to weather the sleep overnight is temparary or permanant.

AS the famous Tamil Poet Thiru valluvar said "Uranguvathupolum sakkadu, urangi vizhippathu polum pirappu", each dawn calls for a celbration, irrespective of our mind sets as it is a boon offered to us to live one more day.

And here comes the great poetic words of Maha Kavi Subramanya Bahrathiar when he declared
'indru puthithai piranthom".

Yes in what better manner, one can overcome the past and enter in tom the future, tahn by simply declaring 'i am born afresh'.

Let the messsage sink in you.Enjoy the day as the day is the only day that is available to you to do all that is good, all that is helpful all that will make you at peace.Repeat that every day. see what a difference that it has made to your lives.

all the best to each one of you on this happy new year , this day and every day to follow.

Seems like a belated greeting..Is it not1, To greet any one, every moment is good..is it not!!

See you later when some thoughts flow..worthwhile(?) to be recorded in the blog.
