MOOD SWINGS

I am often puzzled by the mood swings , not only of mine but also of others.
AND when the dust and noice settles down , i have often wondered whether the mood swing experinced was warranted at all. Thus the cause and effect correlation becomes important.MANY A TIME WE EXPERINCE THE EFFECTS, WHICH RESULT IN MOOD SWINGS BUT SELDOM ARE CONSCIOUS OF THE CAUSES.

The tip for overcoming such mood swings is very simple.Identify whether your change in mood is due to an event or a person or any other factor.Once you have done it ask your self what has contributed to the moodswing. Is it because of an altercation with the person or is it due to outcome of an event or is it due to factors which are beyond your control / beyond your reach.

Having done that if it is on account of facors beyond your control , your change in mood is not going to help the situation any way. Therfore forget it.If it is a result of an altercation with a person , try to see how often your moodswings are attributable to him/her.In other words whether it has become a habit for you to loose control when ever you are with that perosn. In that case better to avoid that person. If that is not possible auto tune yourself not to allow your mind/moods to
be spoilt by him/ her.Very many times when you are conscious in your dealing with any person , your mind is more balanced and so also are the moodsets. If the mood swing is on account of outcome of an event, which was not to one's desire /taste, try to see whether the outcome has got to do anything which you did .If it be so take it as a lesson not to do that again. If the event is on eon which you have no control what so ever, once again forget it.

Life is too short and too fast. Time available from dawn to dusk is the Gift from immortal to mortals. If time is to be spent on worries, moodswings, guilty complexes and so on and so forth where is the time to make a meaning out of this precious life gifted to us!!LET US MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT.

A TRIP TO KAKINADA

I have always liked train journeys as i have mentioned in one of my previous posts.
The recent experience of train journey to kakinada, on an official vist was equally enjoyable.
I have seen in my own life and in other's lives too that we develop a taste for few cities, few food items , few people and so on and so forth. The same holds good for our distastes too. If any one tries to start analysing the reason for the same he/she will become a nut.In other words such likes and dislikes , on majority of times happen instantaneously. There is no reasoning. Or atleast it will appear so.

This prologue is needed to drive home the point that i like KAKINADA for no particular reason. It was sort of instantaneous love for the city. Then i started attributing reasons for the same .Some of them are as under:
1)It was a city where my father worked in Railways, before i was born!
2)It was a city often quoted by my elder siblings as they have lived in that city for reasonable number of years.
3)During my first visit to that city (last year) and also during my second visit now (this year) it rained heavily and made the climate loveable (and you remember my love towrds rais too>>)At times i used to think that my previous birth was in ASSAM(Sirapunjee) or my next birth is going to be there!!!
4)I had been to a hotel by name "subbiah hotel" cortesy, my office.

Now hold your breath. THIS HOTEL IS TALK OF THE TOWN AND IS STATED TO BE RUN generation after generation.Like our Muniyandi Vilas, Thirunelveli Iruttu Alwa Kadai, Thalappa kattu Briyani, madurai Murugan IDDLY kadai,. etc, Hotel Subbiah has carved out a name for its hospitality.

As it normally is the scene witnessed in such popular places, the hotel itself is not visible at all from outside. It hardly has 3/4 rooms each of which can accomodate hardly 10 or 12 people. And you have to wait for hours during peak times to have the food. And it is the place where you can have Lunch as well as Dinner. Hotels serving food in the night are shrinking day by day and even in TAMIL NADU, you do not get meals for Dinner and whether you like it or not you have to go for tiffin items only.(That is one more reason for conflict between my wife and me as i always crave for meals and she always crave for tiffin--Opposite poles attract each other--hahaha).

Coming back to Subbiah Hotel, the first serve consisited of five different sweets (made of milk, made of jaggery, made of sugar , made of fruits ), the second serve followed with different varieties of rice(Puliodharai, Puthina rice, Coconut rice) the third serve consisted of plain rice and five different chutneys (Coconut, Gongura, Chillies, Onion and Kariveppilai) , the next serve consisted of SAMABAR, Vattal kulambu, Kara kulambu, Morekulambu, Next followed different Podis(Paruppu podi, Thengai podi, Karuveppilai podi) , next came pickles (Avakkai, Lemon pickle, Mixed pickles ) along with unlimited quantity of pure ghee, and then Rasam (again 3 types) and Rock like curd / butter milk (and the butter milk served there is equivalent ot cursserved in our house holds).Appada...i get exhausted listing the items itself. And they kept offering more and more and yes , i have forgotten to add to the list, the type of vegetables, chips and paapads served.the beauty is that if you say that you do not like a particular vegetable , an alternate to the same and the one you like is immediately served .think of consuming all these items. You should starve for a week to do justice to this food and as expected i went on a fasting spree after consuming this food one afternoon. And the taste is simply superb, may be their hospitality has added to that taste further.

Thus the point number 4

yavana raniyum vilai raniyum

Hi,

Those who heaved a sigh of relief , on my absence from blog postings, for the past ten days ,beware. I have come with renewed vigour and energy so atht i can make your temporary relief, disappear in no time.

First things first, i had been away to a town Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on official duty , where in i was more acting like a judge, hearing the defence council and the official reps , for hours to gether, with the result, at the end of each day, my head was rolling like a tailspin.Since my sanity was almost at the brink of disaster after hearing arguments and counter arguments,i decided to give a rest to the readers of my blog(and some one says too much!!! as i hardly have any followers ).

My experiences with KAKINADA(anther post in the offing) will be dwelt at length later. This post is to describe how my kakinad visit enabled me to spend some time with the books of one of my favourite authors from child hood.Yes.I mean THE GREAT WRITER of Historic novels, by nmae Sandilyan.

When i was hardly six years old, i have developed an interest in his writings.I still remember the fights i used to have with my sibling to catch hold of the copy of the Kumudam weekly magazine, the moment it is tossed in to our home by the paper boy,to finish reading of the serial called Yawana rani,(In translation it would mean the Queen of Yawanas.)After almost 50 years , during the journey to KAKI NADA, I had the opportunity of reading another historic novel by the same author , named "Vilai Rani"-traslation would read as "Queen for sale".

The charm of description, the narrative style, an eye for details, the beautiful fusion between historical characters and the imaginary characters, the ever lasting and appealing description of the love moments between the hero and heroine(people used to prohibit children from reading Sandilyan those days fearing that young minds would be adulterated on going thru his writings -he is attimes compared with HAROLD ROBINS), all of which attracted me to his writings when i was seven years old, continued to have the same grip and magnetic veil even on date when i am 58.

While Yavana Rani was the story of conflict among the kingdoms ruled by Cholas , Seras and Pandiyas, Vilai Rani covers the dynasty of Chandra Guptha Mouria , the knack and wisdom of Chanakya( on whose guidance the Chandra Gupta Mourya conquers the Nandas ) and the female charcters shrewn inbetween from fantasy to keep he story gripping and interesting. HATS OFF TO THE GREAT WRITER, who is no more .BUT HIS WRITINGS WILL CONTINUE TO BE WIH US, EVER ENCHANTING AND ENLIVENING.

I had the privilege of spending some intimate and transparent question and answer session with the famous writer, when he graced my home with his visit, during his presence at KOLKATA when we organised a Tamil cultural meet there about 30 years back.Enjoying the homely food prepared my wife, he was continuously answering all my questions and when i asked him how he was able to write so refreshingly about the love moments9at his age-he was almost 60 plus then), he said that mind is ageless . So long as mind is young and energetic, nothing could stop its relections on one's own writings.

AND THAT IS THE FINAL WORD. REMAIN YOUNG AT HEART.AND YOUR THOUGHTS AND WRITINGS WILL ALWAYS CARRY THE STAMP OF REFRESHNESS.

YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW

Life is a long journey . Unless we consciosly attempt to make the journey comfortable and enjoyable, the charm of the journey is lost. There are simple tips to make it refreshing and enjoyable. At the first glance, it might appear as philosophical and not practical, but as one goes thru with it and earnestly attempts every time, in all walks of his/her life, its impact will be felt in an amazing manner.

And ofcourse, the immediate response will be that it is easy to preach than to practice. Let me assure my readers that i have been in this journey for the last 59 years and let me be honest..i have fretted and fumed my self several times during this journey. But then relaisation has dawned that fretting and fuming does not take any one any where. In fact it makes one more sullen, with drawn and deserted. And therefore the viable alternative is to take it as it comes.

Let me come to the point straight instead of going in circles. One should have a firm belief that what ever is happening is for good .One should further have the confidence in one's own capabilities to understand that what is deserved by hime/her shall come .MAY BE WITH DELAYS.But certainly it will come and the factor requiring attention is PATIENCE.And in the interugnum lesser the comparison with others the better. Many a time we see others , judge them from the way they speak, move , dress , earn and spend and start beliving that to be the true reflection of them, while many a time we miss out the obvious. On emay be decently employed, but may be continuously having tiff with superiors, one may appear to be easy going type, but may be inwardly bleeding, on emay show off as a very happy married person, and behind the curtains may be praying for a divorce and so on and so on. I am reminded of the famous words(i forgot as usual as to who said it) that a male and female may be in the same bed , even hugging each other , but at the same time their minds may be miles away. And that is the reality. Let me not be dubbed as Cynical.

The purpose of this blog is that there is a definite distributed quota of happiness and sadness to all human beings alike. It is our own comparison, anxities and fears which make the situation worse. If we can understand that and move forward, life would be worth living.Mind you, each day is gifted by god to us and his presence is gifted thru the "present" and let us not carry forward the burden of "yesterdays" and the anxities of "tomorrows" to mar the happiness of "today".

BUILD US A SON

Some one has commented in my blog as to whether my entire time is spent in the office only in writing blog posts.I wish i do have that luxury.

But to remove any misgivings(as it would have other counter effects if any one from my office happen to be a follower of the blog-thogh i doubt it very much-as no body follows ny directions even at office-hahaha!!) let me clarify this aspect. I spend normally about 10 minutes in penning my blog. And the time is either lunch recess (between 1.30 pm to 2 pm) or late evening hours from the comforts of home. OK..

Now coming to the subject of todays post, two things happened, first is that i received an invitation for an Upanayanam and when i went thru it for the venue of the event , it is described as "Home. sweet Home" a title under which i have posted under this blog, hardly 24 hrs earlier. Ya, not only great minds but also great friendship thinks alike and also uses phraces alike".

The subject matter is not about this similarity . It is about the way in which the invitation is drafted. In recent past i have been comimg across a number of invitations , each one of which have got a point or two to score over the rest.BUT THIS ONE IS A CLASS APART (LIKE MY SON'S WRITINGS-I MEAN IT). Let me reproduce IT.

Remember it is an invitation for an upanayanam-NAYANAM MEANS EYES-UPA NAYANAM MEANS ADDITIONAL OR HELPING EYES-

QUOTE

"BUILD US A SON , ALMIGHTY, WHO WILL BE STRONG
ENOUGH TO KNOW WHEN HE IS WEAK,
AND BRAVE ENOUGH TO FACE HIMSELF WHEN HE IS AFRAID,
AND WHO WILL BE PROUD AND UNBENDING IN
HONEST DEFEAT, AND HUMBLE & GENTLE IN VICTORY"

UNQUOTE

I owe this post to the person who drafted those splendid lines and to the parents of the young boy.THAT HAPPENS TO BE THE PRAYER OF EVERY FATHER AND MOTHER , for their sons, irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

My day had its fulfillment....

HOME SWEET HOME

RAINS AGAIN VISITED LAST NIGHT.It was pouring heavily and as expected the EB immediately swunginto action and the current has taken leave of absence. It has become a common sight that each house has an inverter .But the capacity of the inverter itself is stretched to its maximum when EB stretches the current cut for hours together.
But please be happy: there are villages which enjoy current, only for an hour or two these days and that way you should thank your stars that you have cuurent cut for only one or two hours.

AND WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH EB.
The government has got plenty of time to reel out statistics , in reply to the opposition as to how many new units they have installed, how many have commissioned etc. Both the Govt and the opposition knows that no one can verify these details!!perhpas they themselves have not verified the details..that is beside the point; the fact remains that gullible public are taken for a ride in these claims and counter claims. Poor common man suffers .

And when ever rain Gods visit, there is another side to it..

HEARD OF VEDANTHANGAL-a place near Chingleput in TAMIL NADU-a bird sanctuary. The day after the rains our house becomes a vedan thangal not only for birds (as there are quite a few trees around) but also to host of other beings.like reptiles, insects, frogs, crabs etc.In due course of time i think we may start seeling tickets to public to watch these rather odd species and make money. A good pass time will be there for me after retirement..Still there is no enmity to this house, rather the affection for this house keeps growing as it is not merely a house, it is a home.

YES ,A HOME,which was a silent witness to our mood swings,a testimony to so many important events in our life, a place wherein my son and daughter were given birth to, a place which enjoyed when we enjoyed and a place which sighed when we suffered ..Oh, i love this home and that is because it carries the love, affection , intimacy and above all the memories of the past and the present all embedded into it.
AND IF IT ALSO SHELTERS SO MANY OTHER BEINGS, BE IT SO, THE MORE THE MERRIER..AND THE MORE , THE HOME BECOMES MORE SWEET(no problem though diabetic!!)

SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS OF VALUE

JUST TO SHARE SOME THOUGHTS WHICH MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER EVERY TIME WHEN YOU GO THRU IT...

Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but
it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

- Do you know why a Car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the Rearview Mirror
is so small?
Because our PAST is not as important as ur FUTURE. Look Ahead and Move on.

Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes
years to write.

- All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will
not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long
either.

- Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond,
don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a
Base of Gold!

- Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from
above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

- When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities;
when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

- A blind person asked Swami Vivekanand: "Can there be anything worse
than losing eye sight?"
He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"

- When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and
sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has
prayed for you.

- WORRYING does not take away tomorrows' TROUBLES,
it takes away todays' PEACE.

VAZHGA BAHARATHAM , VALARGA INDIA

India can be proud of its rich traditions and its belief in the proverb"better late than never".

Yes 28 years after the great trajedy struck at Bhopal , the court has given its verdict.A paltry sum of Rs 25000 or so as fine and two years of imprisonment to those found guilty.

As expected there were angry protests, including from the law minister who went on to declare that justice is buried deep.Wonderful compliment to the judicial system prevalent in India from a person no less than the LAW MINISTER.India's flag will fly high(dry!!) in the world.

The cause of accident is Methyl Iso Cyanide, which if not kept freezed at a particular temperature is likely to react and produce deadly gas which if smelt will result in disaster.(If you recall KAMAL'S MOVIE Thasavatharam, same such logic forms the back bone of the story). The temperature at which it shall be kept is around 10 degrees and the records and reports indicate that the same has always been kept at a temperature of 21 degrees and the logic is its boiling point is 31 degrees. Added logic is that Bhopal being in central part of India will be experiencing heavy cold (TEMPERATURES DROP DOWN TO -2 to 3 degrees at times) and therefore the assumption that no damage will be done. But every assumption went astray on that fateful day -2/12/1984 which acted as Hitlers Gas chamber for thousands of innocent people living near the Union Carbide factory. There were also lacs of people who suffred in silence with out even knowing the cause of the same. Hundreds of pregnant women either suffered an immediate abortion or those survived gave birth to children with deformities.

All hue and cry raised at that point of time succumbed to the way in which the country and its legal system works . The great BHARATH known for its leniency (the recent example is the Mumbai attack where fierce discussions are still going on about the judgement given to the culprit)oblivious to the cry and pain inflicted on its citizens took its own time and the judgement is atlast delivered.Hence the two formulas as under:

2/12/1984+Methyl Isocyanide=20000 dead + 5lacs decapacitated
20000 dead+5 lacs decapacitated=Rs 25000+2 years imprisonment

Wonderful. That is the value of human lives in Our country. All the ministers and the government which are now showing their resentment have not done any thing to speed up the trial or to ensure that the guilty are severely punished. They allowed the victims to suffer in silence and now have made the judiciary as scapegoat and in the process smeared our image in the eyes of the world.hip hip hurray#

Bharath , the famous Bharath, will now be looked upon as an easy prey, as a country wherein the Government itself do not believe in its judiciary, as a country wherein any alien force can do any thing and still get away with it , a country wherein the law abiding opeople will keep their hope on the Government and the judiciary only to find that they have no time to settle their own internal squabbles.

VAZHGA BHARATHAM!!VALARGA INDIA!!!

RAINS, WELCOME RAINS

I have often wondered whether the likes and dislikes to certain seasons have got some thing to do with the month in which one was born.

For example , i for one always had a love (or is there any other better word than love to show my affinity and intensity of affinity!!)to rainy seasons.Whether it drizzles or whether it pours , it is immaterial.

The moment the rains start, whether in drops or in down pours, an inexplainable energy runs through me.I become a child to adore the rains. Perhaps it has got some thing to do with my early scholl days, when at the drop of a rain, the classes will be cancelled and the final bell will ring.THAT IS BECAUSE THE SCHOOLs in those days (WHEN commercial considerations were not upfront and it used to be a way to serve the society at large)used to be in thatched sheds with the sitting space covered by sands.Perhaps the sense of freedom enjoyed then (even though I can not even dream of the same on date)and the fond hopes of reaching home sonner than scheduled time added to the joy.

And as i grew up my liking for rains also grew up. And the past two days have been splendid at CHENNAI. Day time drizzles, night time down pours(so no one's movement is affected),the cool breeze kissing you with the smoothness of a lover's lips, the trees and plants having fresh and dazzling look at dawn (after having been choked in the rains the previous night), the laziness with which Sun tries to enter and disappear behind clouds, once in a while sight of the beautiful Rain bow on the western skies, all add to the glory of rain.

And coming to the initial question which i asked..Is there a connection with the birth month.I am born in October and normally Chennai experience rains in October and November . Is there any other similarity experienced by any one?I have seen my son to be so fond of Sunny days and mind you he is born in MARCH (earlier than the predicted April) and April/MAY are months dominated by Sun in CHENNAI.

AGAIN ALL THOSE ARE IRRELEVANT. THE RELEVANCE IS THAT THERE ARE MONSOON SHOWERS , SOONER THAN EXPECTED AND LET ME WELCOME & REJOICE IN IT.

life-stranger than fiction

I have always wondered at the typical manner in which some events keep happening again and again.I am equally puzzled by visit to some places which invariably carry a particular type of experience, good or bad.I have seen this happening not only to self but to thos whom i knew also.No answers to these puzzle. The fact remaisn that they keep happening as if dictated by a magic wand.
I shall try to capyure some of them here from my own experiences.

I shall record first events which shook me most folowed by events which breezed in to my life like a welcome relief. This is ceratinly not an autobiography,Hence readers need not get scared away. It is an attempt not to fathoom the reasons behind it too. It is just to record the way in which the life unfurls itself and how life keeps going in circles.

1997-1998-The year started with the sad and sudden demise of one of my paternal uncles, and the death took place on the day when the wedding bells were to ring for my cousin brother's son.The marriage obviously has to be post poned to a late date.It did not end up there. There were series of deaths witnessed in that year, during which i lost my mother, my step mother, my brother;s wife, my wife's paternal uncles and my aunt's husband, all in a span of 12 months.

The cycle of 12 years went by. Again a series of sad seperations :
2009-10- It satrted with the death of my aunt, followed by the death of an aunt's son, and then the death of my cobrother's father, and to cap it all the twin death of my beloved brother and my aunt's son on the same day.I was left high and dry,There were mournings and more mournings. It is a real puzzle how the death has chosen to strike with such calculated sharpness.

Coming to the good things ,

It was exactly 50 years back when my paternal uncles lived like kings in the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad. Then the life cycle pushed them to some remote village for their final years. ANA dthen Excaly 25 years back i had the fortune of landing in twin cities to pursue a carrer chosen for me by my paternal uncle. And after 25 years , now ,my son is having appointment and the blessings of the twin cities to pursue something which is dear to his heart. The difference, in my case choice of the city is made by my paternal uncle , in my son;s case the choice is made by his beloved guru and himself.Once again it is proved that the life is in circles.

And then strangely enough exactly a decade back i had the fortune of leading one of the most contended years of life in Hongkong. It was never felt then , that the city will once again have any connection with me whatsoever. Wrong i am!!
A decade later now, the destiny has given an opportunity to my son to visit Hongkong for furthering his interests in the discipline of his choice.

Yes. Life is starnger than fiction and the events in life keep happening in circles..
Let us keep rolling with out getting struck any where!!!

A TRAIN JOURNEY

Train JOURNEYS have always been close to my heart,Whether i travel, or whether i am there i see off some one or to receive some one.The cause is not important, but the effect.

My earliest remembrance of an enjoyable train journey dates back to when i was 7 years old, when i travlled in the cozy comfort of the then Ist class compartment (maintained neat and clean with attendants enquiring your needs every now and then) along with my dear fathe rand other family members. The journey was to Vijayawada. The train reached in the early morning hours to the welcome breeze of the River KRISHNA and the steaming IDDLIES of Vijayawada accompanied by the Gongura CHUTNEYS and samabar all served in spotles plates ..a privilege enjoed by the Railway employees of higher cadre those days.

THEN CAME A NUMBER OF JOURNEYS, NOteworthy among them are my journey to HYDERABAD, to join the CA course with out knowing what it is all about, journey to MUMBAI to attend a marriage at the famous Shanmughananda hall (attended by famous film personalities from MUMABI)of my aunt's son(who breathed his last a couple of months back, on the same day as my elder brother...briefly putting me off), a journey to Kolkata to take up an employment, a journey to the same place accompanied by wife after the marriage (with a delay of 24 hrs due to a bandh at kolkata), a journey to
Bhopal and Delhi accopanied by Children,A journey to OOTY(less said the better ) A journey to a resort at Ernakulam with wife, son and daughter,a journey to Hyderabad again (after 27 years of my first visit, carrying nostalgic memeories of the past) to take up higher responsibility and in particular to join my loving son, a journey later back to CHENNAI on transfer in a coupe compartment with my dear wife ,a journey to Raichur and then to Mumbai to spend some quality time with my daughter and son..

EACH ONE OF THEM IS MEMORABLE AND UNFORGETTABLE IN THEIR OWN WAY.

Then there are innunerable occasions to see off some one or to receive some one, with accompanying feelings of glee and sorrow.

And this post arise as a result of one of those send offs yesterday at Central. I bade fare well to my son and the next moment felt a little disturbed and uneasy, restless all at the same time ...as usual .

Then i remembered the train and its OWN JOURNEY. It runs every day. Thousands get in and get out. But its journey goes on and on. It has got miles to go, destination to reach. Nothing else is important for it.So also for those who travel by train.THEY HAVE GOT A PURPOSE TO ACHIEVE, a goal to reach, a project to complete,a friend to meet, a reunion awaiting and so on. What is there to get disturbed with it. Instead let us welcome those who arrive with a glee never felt before and let us send off those with good wishes for all their desires to be accomplised...

TRAINS.A NAME RIGHTLY COINED. YES IT TRAINS YOUR THOUGHT AND MIND.

A peep into the past

Thanks to the sustained efforts of my dear son, who and me act like viramadithya and vedalam, often, i have once again succeded in reviving my blog. Not that nay body has missed out anything as there are seldom any visitors. But the fact remins i should not disappaoint its only reader..hahaha..i mean self and hece i am back to the blog posting .

And that takes me to the last three months, very eventful months , in a number of ways. When i say eventful it does not mean that they comprise of all success stories. On THE CONTRARY it had a bundle of events , some of them expected, some of them not, some of them happy and some of them sad.

I will satrt posting them under different lables from hence forth,

Meanwhile this is a prelude to what is in store for the followers of my blog(so that if u chose you can still refrain and be happy) and a justification for the title " a peep in to the past" ....i mean an immediate past..
