It was a wait of more than 15 months.
A thesis which was submitted with a record speed in a span of 15 months had to wait for another 15 moths to get its share of honour.
Yes. there is a time for every thing and during the interugnum, one has to only keep trying and leave the results to the time and destiny, or in short to GOD.And sincere attempts and the passion for the perfection never lets anyone in dismay.
It was Feb 14th and the whole world was celebrating the Valentine day. It was a day of celebration. The air was already filled with joy of the lovers and happily married couples. It was smelling sweet and i was waiting to join the celebrations, not with a view to CELEBRATE THE VALENTINE DAY BUT TO celebrate another one of those life time attainment.
LET me not prolong the suspence. The occasion represent the day of VIVAVOCE for my son in respect of his thesis submitted in Non 2010 at EFL, Hyderabad. He flew from Hongkong to CHENNAI on 12 th early morning hours and left for Hyderabad on the morning of 13th(An unlucky number for most , and a lucky one for him ..strange coincidences...he started his journey to this Phd some time back in the year 2003 on another day of 13th, when he entered Loyola).
I still recollect and remember the gleam in his eyes when he got the admission, after a hectic 9 month period when he was in and out of two colleges at cHENNAI AND Bangalore in quick succession for his own valid reasons. How valid they were is proved beyond doubt on this day.And the observation of one of the principals when he chided mefor backing my son with a cryptic comment that an year's loss would turn out to be an irreparable one was haunting him than me and he did every thing to prove that he did not waste even a second thereafter.
And it was exactly 5pm on 14/2/012.The much awaited call came from my son.As usual there was a run to the phone both by me and my wife and as sual, i gave the freedom to her to pick the receiver first. And the voice from the other end reverberated simultaneously in our ears. The voice said with claity, and confidence"You are talking to Dr Srinivas".
Our joy knew no bounds. It was a great moment. Words can not expressit.
The struggeles underrwent and the battles fought to wards this journey are matters which can fill up naother blog later.
Forthe present, thank u may dear son. you have made us proud, is suffice to say.
CHEERS ALL THE WAY TO YOU.

Life and its lessons
September is slowly drawing to a close.
That is to mark the beginning of what is supposed to be the last 31 days of hectic
schedule in my present organisation . Yes, it is going to be fare well time after 31.10.2011.
I recall the past employers, the challenges, the expectations, the disappointments and waht not at this point of time.
Career which started in CHENNAI by being a paid qualified asssitant in the same Audit firm, in which i did my articleship and successfully completed my inter and final slowly graduated to an appointment in one of the companies in Private sector in BANGALORE .Initial days of expectations, young blood , the urge to taste any thing new and ofcourse the desire to take up a carrer in banking , (arising out of
my being nurtured by two of may paternal uncles both of whom had decades of experience with an Indian Bank) and last but not the least my love for the city of joy, KOLKATTA,resulted in my relocation from South to East.I joined the bank head quartered in Kolkatta.
East taught me a lot. It enabled me to appreciate the nuances of my life and that of others too. I became sociable at kolkatta only thanks to some nice friends who stayed and groomed me and also thanks to K ,whose small but intent association with me in PATTIMANDRAMS & vAZHKKADU MANDRAMS made the life all the more interesting.I rediscovered my self in those days. These were the days when i became an ordent admirer of BalaKumaran , after reading his 'Mercury POOKKAL" which it self was a topic that we debated in BharathiTAMIL sangam.(We refers to me and my wife once agin proving the point that we are opposite poles attracting each other ).
City of joy proved there are two sides to each coin. The city which gave me immense joy also ahppened to give me the glimpses of the other side of life. It was here that my wife's love for the first child could not become a reality. It was the place whewre we lost quite a few valuable things (mATRIAL AND OTHER WISE), Life has come a full circle. This has not however dampened my love for the city a wee bit.
But there are other things in the waiting and other commitments too. The desire to be by the side of my mom and dad and to provide them peace of mind in their old age drove me to look for pastures back in CHENNAI and that is how within 6 months of my job hunt, i could find a placement in a bank headqurtered in CHENNAI ITSELF.
THE BEGINNING WAS GOOD, BROUGHT SMILES ALL OVER AND AS IT normally happens with such extereme joys , it was shortlived.Once again my better hals was disappointed in her desire for a rose in her garden of motherhood.
I am an optimist. An optimist to the core. And a great believer in God.There will always be a dawn is my mantra which made me to face the toughest times in my life. And it was this mantra which made me to wait and take in to my hugs two "darlings of heart" in a span of three years after my return to chennai.IN THE INTERUGNUM I built a house so that my offsprings will have a place to be comfortable when they enter the world and my parents can relax with peace of mind in their own house. My wife converted this house of ricks in to Home of harmony and peace over the decade.
No turning back since i joined the prestigious institution in CHENNAI.Ofcourse expectaions with which i joined the institution were all raced to ground when the reality stared at my face ....with a waiting period of twelve years to earn a promotion to next cadre.Thank fully before my father breathed his last, the promotion came after a written test and a gruelling interview of half an hour.I could give the final satisfaction to my father by earning that promotion and exactly in 6 months time he joined the Parama padham.
that is the long and short of the areer graph.Had i continued with my bank in East, i wold have been elevated twice by that time. And taht is where my belief in fate and God increased multifold. The institution which kept me waiting for my first promotion for 12 long years , gave me an overseas posting, a placement as a faculty(which is the most admirable stint, i enjoy till this date)and promoted me to Top mangement cadre in the next 20 years. But then the agaony of initial wait of 12 years had robbed the charm of all the rest which followed later. And today i got a call from my friend in the east, who continued in the same job(unlike me who had quit)thAt he has just been elevated to cadre of GM. that is the irony of life.
I had no regrets . I have learnt in the process that life is a mixture of good and bad, opportunities and challenges ups and downs , expectations and disappointments.Once this wisdom sinks in nothing can shake you. You are able to treat things with proper perspective and understanding and you are able to enjoy the tide called life. And above all there is reinforcement of values and beliefs in the ultimate power above. And that is the essence of life , meaning of life and the purpose of life which leads to harmony and peace.
60 years ....Experiences of 600 years .....Enjoyment of 6000 years.

welcome to new financial year
Friday, April 1, 2011BEGIINING OF THE NEW FINANCIAL YEAR
HI ALL,
THERE WAS CELEBRATION AROUND, MUSIC IN AIR AND A SENCE OF UPLIFTMENT IN EVERY ONE, WHEN THE NEWS OF CROSSING BUSINESS MIX OF 250000 CRORES WAS ANNOUNCED.THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT A NEW FINANCIAL YEAR COULD NOT HAVE BEGUN ON A BETTER FOOTING.
THE FACT THAT THE ATTAINMENT CAME, IN MY TENTH YEAR OF MANAGING THE BALANCE SHEET WAS SWEET.AT THE SAME TIME, THE RECOGNITION THAT THIS IS GOING TO MY LAST ASSOCIATION WITH THE YEAR END BALANCE SHEET OF THE BANK (THIS BEING MY YEAR OF RETIREMENT) WAS ALWAYS OCCUPYING TEH BACK OF MY MIND.
THAT GAVE A MIXED FEELING WHICH I WAS NOT ABLE TO DECIPHER OR PINPOINT TILLNOW. I DECIDED TO SHARE MY FEELINGS ON THE EVE OF NEW FINANCIAL YEAR WITH MY FELLOW COLLEGUES THRU THE INTRA MAIL FACILITY AND THEN I WAS TAKEN BY SURPRISE BY THE OVERWHELMING AND HONEST RESPONSES RECEIVED BT ME.I AM JUST TABULATING A FEW OF THEM BELOW, NOT WITH A VIEW TO MAKE THIS BLOG " A SELF PRAISING " PLATFORM ,BUT TO ASSERT TO MY SELF THAT MY INNINGS SO FAR HAD REALLY WON ME A STREAM OF ADMIRERS,WELL WISHERS AND MOST OF THEM HAVE CHOSEN ME TO BE ROLE MODEL (possibly seeing the brighter side of me alone!!).
THE COMMENTS CAN BE SUMMED UP IN THREE CATEGORIES:
1.AN EXPRESSION OF SURPRISE AND DISBELIEF ON MY ANNOUNCEMENT ,THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE MY RETIREMENT YEAR.MOST OF THEM POINTED OUT THAT I DO NOT LOOK LIKE 60 AND AT BEST I CAN BE OF THE AGE OF 55 OR SO AND I AM JOKING .
2.THERE WERE WISHES TO THE EFFECT THAT RETIREMENT AGE BE INCREASED SO THAT I BECOME ELEVATED AS GM AND RETIRE AS GM.
3.THIRD CATEGORY WHO ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT I AM DUE FOR RETIREMENT, EXPRESSING CONFIDENCE THAT I WILL BE RETIANED BY THE BANK FOR MY EXPERTISE OF BALANCESHEET MANAGEMENT (IS THERE ONE SUCH !!) AND FOR TAKING FORWARD IFRS IMPLEMENTATION IN DAYS TO COME.
ON GOING THRU THE VARIOUS CATEGORIES OF RESPONSE, I WAS ABLE TO PIN POINT MY FEELINGS MORE PRECISELY. IT WAS A FEELING OF GRATITUDE AND GREATFULNESS BUNDLED INTO ONE, MARKED HOWEVER BY A TINGE OF SORROW.GRATITUDE TO THE INSTITURION WHICH HAS MADE ME WHAT I AM TODAY (THOUGH THERE COULD BE WISH FUL THINKING TAHT IT OUGHT TO BE MUCH MORE BETTER), GRATEFULNESS TO COLLEGUES AND SUPERIORS WHO HAD PUT UP WITH ME (DESPITE ALL MY TANTRUMS, OUTBIRSTS ETC SEEING ONLY THE POSITIVE SIDE IN ME) AND TINGE OF SORROW BECAUSE I AM DESTINED TO BID FARE WELL THIS YEAR TO ALL GOOD THINGS AROUND.
THE TRAVEL WAS LONG.CHALLENGES FACED WERE MANY. LIMITATIONS CROSSED WERE COUNTLESS.FROM A MEAGRE PROFIT OF AROUND RS 42 CRORES (WHEN I ENTERED THE BALANCE SHEET DEPARTMENT A DECADE BACK) THE PROFITS SURGED TO 4 FIGURES IN 2007.A REMARKABLE ATTAINMENT. THEN FOLLOWED A PERIOD OF CONSOLIDATION AND AGAIN THE BUSINESS MIX CROSSED 250000 CRORES BY 31/3/2011.NO DOUBT A TIME TO REJOICE.THE FACT THAT WE CROSSED MANY HURDLES IN THIS JOURNEY AND SOME OF THEM MAY NOT EVEN BE KNOWN TO EVEN TO PEOPLE WHO MATTER, BUT HAD BEEN SILENTLY HANDLED AND CONQURED AT OUR LEVELS ITSELF ADD DIGNITY TO OUR ROLE FUNCTIONS.I COULD NOT BUT RECALL MYDEAR FRIEND JANARDHANA REDDY AT THIS POINT OF TIME WHO WAS WITH ME IN THIS JOURNEY FOR ALLMOST 6 YEARS WHEN WE STOOD SHOULDER TO SHOULDER IN TACKLING EVERY ISSUE WHICH WE CAME BY.SPECIAL CREDITS ALSO TO RS,SV,KR,P AND AR WHO IN THIER OWN WAY MADE THE WORKING ATMOSHERE INTERESTING AND LIVELY.
I NOW MOVE ON WITH CONTENTMENT, A SENCE OF SATISFACTION AND A PRIDE IN HAVING ACHIEVED WHAT I WANTED TO ACHIEVE. I HAVE LEARNT NOT TO GAUGE MY WORK WITH THE REWARDS WHAT I GOT, BUT BY SELF INTROSPECTION AND SELF APPRAISAL AND THAT LEAVES ME WITH A DISTINCT SENCE OF PEACE AND SOLITUDE.
THANKS AND REGARDS TO ALL THOSE MADE IT POSSIBLE INCLUDING SUPERIORS WHOSE WARMTH AND AFFECTION I ENJOYED IN PLENTY.

HAPPINESS IS A STATE OF MIND
I had been to Hyderabad , one of the places i have developed an instant love, and returned yesterday night.
The reason is purely personal and despite that being a personal visit i was able to do some official work also incidentlaly.
No more suspense:),the visit was intended to spend some time with my son, who had been working like a Robo for the past 4 months to bring his thesis to a shape before the d day..meaning the day of departure to Hongkong.
Let me admit that i am totally naive in so far as his studies and pursuits are concerned. I have infact been a clasic example to vouchsafe for the title of this blog"ignorance is bliss" especially on this count. Perhaps my leaving his path open with out any abstruction is the only contribution, i have made to enable him to reach his goal!!ANy way that is besides the point.
I wanted to be by his side , when he was nearing one of his cherished goals, despite the odds that he had been going thru , exactly an year back.In july 2009, it was not even clear as to how long it will take for him to settle and then to proceed on his pursuits .But as people say, good people and honest people never need to be anxious about the outcome. The Gurus (Ref his mentors from his school life to the life at IFL university), the peers, the collegues and host of his friends had a deep faith in him and faith begets faith. He has not let them down.I am given to understand that once my son submits his thesis, that possibly would be the one completed in the shortest possible time.It does not meant that it lacks in content or quality.the fact that every chapter of his thesis is vetted by one of the authorities on the subject, who is known for his widom, domain knowledge and accepatance at International level , is enough evidence to indicate the quality of the thesis .
Infact i wanted to spend a couple of hours with his mentor at the University , (despite the embarassment that my son was indicating to me , in doing so,) by inviting him for a dinner. But as luck would have it (despite my son inviting him and his agreement in readiness to join for dinner) due to some trouble at the campus site ,his movements were restricted and hence he could not make it. It was my misfortune in not being able to convey that single word "thanks" to him which would have made my trip whole some and complete.
No regrets. I am a firm believer that every thing which happens is for our own good. MAY BE BETTER AND MORE APPROPRIATE TIME, POSSIBLY WOULD BE WHEN MY SON IS CONFERRED PhD and i will wait for that moment to meet the great mentor and guide for my son, during his campus life.
And the days flew fast, as expected. I landed at Hyderabad on a Saturday night and returned back to Chennai on Tuesday night. While Hyderabad welcomed me with cool breeze and a lovely climate, on return Chennai welcomed me with thunderstorm and showers. And when you have been in your best of moods , climates really do not matter. And if the climates are those which you have always liked(I love rains, cool breeze and the streets having a clean look after the thunderstorm)it is a two in one gift/treat from the forces in heaven.
And the day after i landed i was told by my son that his chapters have been given a Green signal, by his mentor. and our joy knew no bounds. We celebrated like kids, going into any hotel/bar that we happened to see, ordering food at random, retiring to bed as and when we feel like, visiting places together (places which we used to frequent in my earlier sojourn in Hyderabad during 2008)viewing TV at odd hours , ordering coffee/tea as and when we liked and so on and so forth. The only thing we did not accoplish was going together to a movie (Not that we had any craze for movies, but only to loosen ourselves to the last bid).that is because the theatre timings did not measure up to our energy levels and expectations!!
And these 72 hours will be etched in memory in golden words, for we know that it is a prelude to the seperation that we are required to handle which is in the offing for the next 720 days, the days he is going to be on his pursuit of another PhD at HONGKONG, another place which has developed me in a positive manner, during my stint in late 90".Like father . like son, is proved again and again.
NOW I LOOK FORWARD TO HIS CROWNING NEW HEIGHTS IN HIS ACADEMIC PURSUITS WITH GREAT MENTAL BALNCE AND WONDERFUL PHYSICAL HEALTH.I AM FOR SURE THAT HIS JOURNEY OF 1000 MILES HAD STARTED WHEN HE LEFT LOYOLA AND AM SURE THAT HIS STINT AT HYDERABAD INDICATES AN INTERVAL TIME.( A TIME TO LOOK AT THE PAST AND A TIME TO GAZE THE FUTURE TO BALANCE HIS JOURNEY) THE CLIMAX OF HAPPINESS AND BLISS AWAITS HIM AT HONGKONG AND WITH WORTHY BLESSINGS OF HIS SUPERIORS AND LOVE AND AFFECTION OF ALL OF US, I AM SURE 720 DAYS WILL PASS LIKE A WINK OF AN EYE.
hip hip hurray, My friend son, i am proud of you and bless you from heart of hearts,

A TRIBUTE TO TEACHERS
I do not know at this juncture, whom i should recall from my memories to honour them on this day devoted to Gurus, and i indeed feel guilty that i have not done it all along in the span of last 58years.My son is a guru, to me at this moment and the first heart felt thanks to him , for having reminded me about my omission, by his post, which is a classic tribute to his teachers.
And coming to the word "Guru", is it confined to only teachers(School, college etc0 or does it extend beyond that.To me before broaching on this issue let me place my gratitude to my teachers who made me what i am to day...
It goes back to Sita teacher(SRI DEVI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL), who took care of me during my first years of schooling, and in the same breath i must acknowledge my other teacher(my own sister Jayam)who with out teaching any thing, lives day in and day out as a role model to be pursued .
Then the memory lane takes me to the next important teacher of my life, who taught me the values of life, a strong belief system in God,self confidence by identifying, accepting and making me a leader to lead various debates, classes etc , who taught me mathematics and English and made me to secure state rank and a school first rank in my school.MANY OF THE VALUES IN LIFE WHICH I HOLD EVEN ON DATE , I OWE it to Sri Vijayaraghavachariar(RAMA KRISHNA MISSION HIGH SCHOOL-North branch).
My college days brought me back the passion for English language as well as Tamil langauge, and since then they were my two eyes. The ease and expertise with which i was able to handle the behavoural science classes ,in both languages , simultaneously later in my life as a faculty , the taste that i have developed to authors like Jayakanthan, Thi Janagiraman, NA Parathasarathy , JK, etc all flowed from my two teachers at College Sri Jagannatha Chariar(Tamil) and sri K.Srinivasan
English).I still recall with agony and pleasure at the same time, when my professor of English did the last part of Antony and cleopatra, the death scene of cleopatra. The entire class was moved and in tears at that moment when he acted like cleopatra, and none of us could take lunch on that day. All of us skipped our lunch as no one was in a mood to go to lunch. And that was the day i recognised the greatness of true love.
Then when i moved in to the professional pursuit, Sri Sadagopan, a chartered accountant by profession, taught me the values about the profession and th need to maintain the highest clarity and integrity, backed with practical wisdom in issues of importance.
LATER WHEN I HAVE TAKEN BANKING AS MY CAREER THE ONE PERSON WHOM I SHOULD MAKE A reference to for all the guidance that he gave to me is Sri Ganesan, who made my career graph to ascend the way in which it is presently progressing.
That much about the teachers, i.e the manner in which the term is loosely understood by masses-then there are many more teachers, like a friend in need, a father's untold love, a mother's spoken love, a sweet heart's timely advise, the actions and words of near and dear, a son and a daughter, and even the opposition of an enemy ,events in society which revolve around you all these are great masters of life. And as my son succinctly put it the life itself is the greatest leveller and to that extent a great teacher too.
I dip my banner in acknowlegement to all those who have contributed directly and indirectly in so many ways for shaping my life.
